Hair Density

I did a braid out last night after washing my hair with the starter shampoo and using the sl moisture treatment. As a leave in I used the Organix coconut milk split ends mender. I finished putting my braids in around 11:30 PM. I went to bed and I just took them out 11:30 AM, 12 hours. Can you believe my locks actually still are not dry? My roots are still damp and I would say this is due to the locks swelling (locking) and taking a longer time to dry. Good news again, but not because as they get longer the air drying time will continue to increase. I'm not open to the idea of using a dryer to dry my hair because I'm against any heat. Anyone experiencing this?

Unfortunately, thelonger and thicker your hair gets it takes a while for your hair to dry.

Depending on what I have planned I will air dry( even if I have to walk around with braids in my hair for two days, lol)but if I have plans to do something the next day I'll use my dryer. Thankfully my dryer has a cool setting so I'll alternate between the heat and cool settings. However I hardly use my dryer in the first place.

Anyhow how do you like that organix product? not that I need any products in my hair right now, just curioous.

First I squeeze as much water out as I can with the towel and go light on my leave in conditioner. Then I let my hair air dry about 30 mins before braiding or rolling. I would do it earlier in the day so that my locs have longer to dry. When I go to bed, I don't wear a scarf if my hair is braided or in rollers. Instead I put to use my satin pillow case. I also keep my home nice and toasty when it's cold out and I'm sure that helps.

Yes, Definitely even before I locked my hair, it would retain water. I'd try to wrap my hair and sleep on it and wakeup with a wet head. So I do partially dry my hair with a hair dryer but I keep it on cool, so no heat damage.

If you do your braids neatly enough you can wear them for a couple of days before taking them out for your braid out. I would also recommend a microfiber towel. Leave your hair wrapped in the microfiber towel after washing and it will draw a lot of the water from your locks allowing them to dry faster.

@Brown Buttahfly - I love the Organix products they smell great, and I haven't experienced any issues (slippage) from it either. I would definitely recommend since they are only $5.

@Kicukalah - I do squeeze out the water, but maybe I need to let it air dry a bit before braiding. Normally I'm getting ready for bed so time isn't on my side! Lol

@Natural High - yes my hair defintely retains water..I just need to give my locks more time.

@Quietspirit - I do them neatly so that I get a better look when I take them out, but I'm not all that comfortable walking aroudn with them, because they are little nubs at the back of my head! LOL! Maybe next year when I have some hang time on them.

Thanks LADIES!

I squeeze out all the water out and then dry with a blowdryer on the cool setting and constantly in motion around the locs. It's too cool right now and I'd have to turn the heat way up in order for me to be able to air dry.

Yes I have noticed the older they've got the longer it is taking them to dry and I'm sure that will only increase as they get longer. But that comes with the territory I guess and the price I'm willing to pay for longer hair.
