So I got home this afternoon from yesterday's BBQ and what did I find on my counter. Oh yes, my nappylock tool has arrived!!!!! So of course I had to try it out and I got right to it. I tightened my first lock with the Nappylock tool. I am so proud of myself, but I can tell you right now that it will take me a solid week to retighten my whole head with my 580+ locks. However, it is another feeling of LIBERATION and FREEDOM!!!!!!!!!
It came in a nice little nifty pouch which most likely I will be carrying around in my purse going forward. Who knows when I have some free time, just sitting around i will be retightening locks here and there!!! Now that I have done it myself I think I will be start maintaining them around my six month mark which will be in September.

You are SOOOOO brave! Was it hard?? I want to try, kind of, but I am so scared. Please do a video, if you don't mind, when you get really good at it. That will def save some money.
It was quite easy actually. You should try it just to see if you would one day like to do it for yourself.
Oh - I have no idea how to do a video :-(, but the Kalia Dewdrop video is very easy to follow that I posted in the DIY first post. Also check out this blog spot http://saabira8.blogspot.com/2008/03/how-did-you-do-that.html she gives detail instructions which are easy to follow!!
congrats!! hey! ur pouch is much prettier than mine...LOLOL! i find it easy as well to re-ti. i'm due for another one soon.
DIY'ers ROCK!
That's it!!! I'm going to try it. I will be sisterlocked 5 months on the 23rd of this month, so I will make it my 6 month anniversary gift to myself. I hope that it's not hard to do. I don't mind taking an entire week to do my own hair if I can do it. Think of all of the money that I will save!!!
@PhePhi - DIY does rock it felt good to do it. How long does it take you to retighten?
@Felicia - did you watch the Kalia Dewdrop you tube video? Doesn't it look pretty easy? Hey $20, can set you free from seeing another consultant!! LOL..as I head to mine tomorrow.
WOW! I'm impressed that so many SL wearers want to DIY. I guess I'm a lazy school teacher because I do other pple installs and retights but refuse...absolutely refuse to do my own hair. I tried but after the 5th lock, I was like forget this mess.... LOL
Good luck with your DIY!
@FreeP - It makes sense why you wouldn't want to do your own. You work on others and you want the same relaxing experience while getting your hair done! I can understand that, for me its more like wanting to be dependent on myself to take care of my hair :-)
Congrats! During my first self retightening I married three locks on the side of my head! But I managed to get them free and tightened, so it can be done! Keep us posted.
DIYing is where it's at especially nowadays!
@Queen Nat - only three lokcs you married, well thats actually pretty good. I think in the back especially I will marry more than that!
@MsFullroller - to me its a self of accomplishment as well. I'm pretty excited about it.
Gigglz - that hole looks so big! Did your lock slip out while using it? Can you explain how it (the lock) stays in?
@Bajan Lily - I have to get back to you on this one because I need to retighten one to explain it properly.
Well done, joining DIY ranks. It's great to be able to maintain your own hair. I actually enjoy doing mine now, although for months I dreaded the day I'd start DIY.
@freep, sometimes I do my daughter's and afterwards the last thing I want is reTi my own head.
@anthia-ofo - I must have missed your post in my foggy vacation head so I'm just now responding.
How long does it take you complete your whole head? Do you do it in one sitting? And did you take the class? Or online (lol-go you tube)?
